Synopsis: (Documentary) Hoards of quirky, middle-aged men, donning white beards, sportsmen garb, and red berets, descend upon Key West for the Ernest 'Papa' Hemingway Look-Alike Contest. For the first time since it's history, the final stage of voting resulted in a tie between two long-time contenders Matt Gineo and Denis Golden. Rather than welcoming two new Papas, the judges deliberated and voted on a tiebreaker, awarding Gineo the title. Since Golden lost the previous year in the closest vote to date, other contestants consider him the odds-on favorite to win the following year, seeing him as a symbol of inspiration and determination; while others are jealous of the attention he receives and consider him a threat. Production Background & Fun Facts: Shane Christian Eason is an Assistant Professor and Multimedia Production Coordinator for the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University. Eason specializes in experimental and documentary film, expanded cinema, media installation and film curating. His formal experimental and documentary films are conscience studies in the discourse of abstraction, memory, and identity. His films have been screened and exhibited internationally in a number of film festivals, art galleries and alternative exhibition spaces. His latest project 'PAPA' is a feature documentary that chronicles the Ernest 'Papa' Hemingway Look-alike Contest annually held in Key West, FL.
