Director: Antonino Fabiano Category: Documentary Short Runtime: 5 Place of Origin: Buffalo Creek Middle School Shooting Locations: Palmetto, Florida |
Synopsis: (Documentary) At the start of the 2016 school year Jada (Hope) came to me with a set of index cards. Although I did not know her at the time, and for a still unknown reason, she asked me to read the cards that detailed how her life changed following her father's overdose, and her mother's drug abuse. The personal story she told was raw and unvarnished, and discussed prison, dangers and consequences of drug abuse, and the loss of innocence of this preteen. I was moved by Jada's story, and immediately felt compelled to share it with a larger audience. Cast: Jada Taylor (student/writer) Writer: Jada Taylor (student); Producers: Antonino Fabiano (teacher) and the Buffalo Creek Middle School Documentary Team; Crew: Irelyn McGrath
Production Background & Fun Facts: This documentary is a collaboration between teacher/producer/director (Antonino Fabiano) and a handful of first-year video documentary students from the Buffalo Creek Middle School. In producing this short documentary, my goal was to report on the drug abuse issues in Manatee County through the eyes of this brave middle schooler. Festivals & Accolades: Tampa Bay Arts and Education Laurel of Excellence Award; Official Selection of the Silver Screen Film Festival
